Russian Verbs of Motion: Бежа́ть vs. Бе́гать 🏃‍♀️

One of the trickiest (but most fascinating!) parts of Russian is verbs of motion. Today let’s look at the verb “to run”:

👉➡️ Бежа́ть – unidirectional, means to run in one direction, right now or at a specific time.
🔹 Я бегу́ в школу. – I’m running to school.

👉 ➡️⬅️Бе́гать – multidirectional, means to run around / run regularly or back and forth.
🔹 Я ча́сто бе́гаю у́тром. – I often run in the morning.

✅ MORE EXAMPLE sentences with the verbs "бежа́ть - бе́гать":
1. Он бежа́л без огля́дки.
He was running as fast as he could. (in one direction)
2. Я реши́ла бе́гать по утра́м.
I decided I will jog every morning. (as a habit, in general)
3. Как бы́стро бежит вре́мя!
Time flies (runs) so fast! (in one direction)
4. Он бежа́л от правосу́дия за грани́цу.
He fled from justice abroad. (in one direction)
5. Де́ти бе́гали наперегонки́. (more than one directions)
The children were chasing each other.

✨ Tip:
If you’re talking about one specific action, use бежа́ть.
If you’re talking about habitual or repeated action, use бе́гать.
