BISMUN 2011 Conference (full title: Bucharest International Student Model United Nations 2011 Conference) is an MUN-type academic simulation of various comittees belonging to international institutions. During BISMUN 2011 the 200 participants, which will be selected from Romania and abroad, will simulate the activities of 7 comittees out of which 4 belong to the United Nations: the UN Security Cou
ncil, the UN Economic and Social... Council, the UN Human Rights Council, and the UN Environment Programme, 2 belong to the European Union: the European Council and the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and one belongs to NATO: the North Atlantic Council. During the 6 days in which the Conference takes place (23-28 of March 2011), in the Palace of Parliament and the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest, the delegates will play the role of plenipotentiary diplomats for a state, engaging in negotiations with other delegates, participating in debates, giving speeches and arguing for political positions, drafting and amending resolutions as well as being involved in every aspect in which a real diplomat would be involved during the actual decisional process. The project is designed to use both formal and non-formal education methods, its objectives being to stimulate participative democracy among the youth, to increase awareness in respect to the role played by the UN, the EU and NATO in the international community and to develop a multicultural environment in which issues critical for the present-day society can be approached, debated and at least partially solved.
