Friday – Day 2
Soon after sunrise, this year’s participants in RMI and their guides gathered for breakfast at Moxa canteen. The atmosphere was tenser than on the previous day, due to the challenging competition that was drawing near. The time had come for them to test their own capacities, using their knowledge to successfully complete today’s tasks.
Having arrived at “Tudor Vianu” National High school of Computer Science, our foreign students entered the classrooms they had been assigned to, impatiently waiting for their supervisors. THE COMPETITION STARTED!
Five hours later, our high school main hall was animated by the hustle and bustle generated by their excitement. Deeply satisfied, or rather discouraged, all participants were eager to share impressions with their colleagues or leaders.
Today’s competition consisted of three buzzworthy tasks, having been carefully conceived by a special committee of teachers. Most of the participants considered them difficult; however, the majority managed to find an approach.
Jelena Hadzi-Puric (team leader Serbia): “The task had a complicated formulation: it’s a huge problem because all of us are pure mathematicians and expect a pure formulation and precise examples. That was a huge problem, but thanks to a polite Romanian teacher who helped us, we handled it.”
Ivan Ganchev Ganev: “The problems were very difficult, at a very high level, probably like in a Balkan Olympiad.”
Pascal Sommer: “It was difficult, but we hope for the best.”
The day continued with a well-earned lunch, back at Moxa canteen. (Students were highly enchanted by the vanilla Swiss roll they had for dessert!) They also expressed their satisfaction towards the food and the services.
While most of the teams wanted to rest until dinner, few others kept exploring Bucharest’s surroundings, in the company of their guides.
Tomorrow, they will have another chance to exceed their own limits. Hopefully, they will only make use of their constructive feelings, once they have experienced the first half of the contest.
