A few moments from Monti — golden walls, cobbled streets, old cars and the kind of light that makes Rome feel suspended in time.

Behind the Edit

Editing is one of my favourite parts of photography.

The camera records a scene. Editing allows me to decide what I want to emphasize and how I want the final image to feel.

Here’s the process behind this photo.

This is the original RAW file.

It has all the information I need, but it isn’t the finished image. My goal isn’t to dramatically change it—it’s to bring out what initially caught my attention.

Step 1: Crop & Optics

I always start with composition.

A small crop, straightening if needed, and lens corrections. Getting the foundation right makes every step afterwards much easier.

Step 2: Light & Curves

This is where most of the work happens.

I shape the overall contrast and brightness before touching the colours. Curves give me much more control than simply increasing contrast.

Step 3: Color

Instead of increasing saturation, I adjust each colour individually. Small changes to hue and luminance often have a bigger impact than boosting colours globally.

Step 4: Effects & Detail

These are subtle adjustments.

A bit of texture, less clarity, slight vignette and sharpening. Nothing dramatic—just enough to support the overall look.

Step 5: Masking

Masking is the final refinement.

I use it only where it’s needed to bring attention to specific parts of the image without affecting everything else.

Final

The final edit.

Every image is different, so I don’t follow a fixed recipe or use one preset for everything.

The process stays similar, but the decisions always depends on the photo.

What’s the first thing you adjust when editing a photo?

The Art of Noticing — Rome

Not every photograph begins with a landmark.

Sometimes it begins with a patch of light, a quiet street, an empty café, or a moment that lasts only a few seconds.

A few hours wandering through Procida, following narrow streets, faded facades, old Fiats and the smell of salt in the air.

Some places are best remembered this way.

Procida, Italy.
