Hotel Dunărea in Bucharest was built in the late 1930s in Art Deco style, across from Gara de Nord, as a 70‑room landmark for travelers. It was damaged in the 1940 and 1977 earthquakes, closed after 1977, and stood abandoned for over four decades, becoming a ruin and public hazard.
After 1990 it was returned to a private owner, but redevelopment plans failed. In 2024 authorities proposed restoring it as a cultural centre, but in 2025 expropriation was dropped, leaving its future uncertain.
