July is when the East Coast of Sri Lanka stays dry, sunny and inviting. It is also when Yala monsoon brings a few cold showers too.

Here, our favourite experiences for the months of July & August in Sri Lanka.

1. Photograph the rare style of stilt fishing at Hikkaduwa. It’s one of the indigenous forms of the country, attracting photographers from all over the world.

2. Marvel at the immensely rich marine world on East Coast’s Pigeon Island National Park. It’s a treasure trove for freedivers as well.

3. Arugam Bay is a surfers’ delight with some of the world’s best waves. Is also home to great food spots, including cafe.

4. A hidden gem on the East coast, this national park is home to Asiatic elephants, leopards and a lot more!

5. The world’s prettiest train journey is here as it crosses misty tea plantations, lush tropics, little hamlets, beautiful hillocks and more.

6. One of the prettiest, most solitary beaches in Sri Lanka! Trincomalee is beyond comparison.

7. Look up when you enter the Dambulla Cave Temple; the roof here has some very interesting murals.
