Within the framework of the webinar "International Projects, Collaboration, and Professional Development"—held for students of the Master’s degrees in Teaching at the University of Lisbon, including future teachers from the Master in Informatics Teaching—the tremendous impact of Erasmus+ projects in transforming modern classrooms was put in the spotlight.

Rui Baltazar took the stage as one of the main speakers to deliver an insightful presentation on the Erasmus+ project, showcasing how participating in European initiatives can revolutionize pedagogical practices and strengthen teachers' professional identity.

These two presentations successfully took place on May 15th and May 26th, 2026. The conferences served as a prime space for sharing and critical reflection, demonstrating concrete examples of meaningfully integrating digital technologies into teaching, promoting cross-border mobility, and building essential global skills for today's schools.

A Distinguished Panel
The event also featured a highly valuable contribution from our colleague Rute Batista, Senior Professional Development Manager for the Support Services of the European School Education Platform and eTwinning, who was present to share her expert insights and extensive experience in teacher professional development on a European scale.

🚀 Today, the EdutainSTEM project team came together for an exciting online meeting to review the latest developments and take a sneak peek at the platform that is currently taking shape.

During the session, partners explored the progress made so far, discussed the integration phase of the classes, learning materials, and educational content, and shared valuable feedback to ensure the platform delivers an engaging and impactful learning experience for students and educators alike.

We are excited about the progress being made and look forward to sharing more updates soon.

Stay tuned as we continue building a platform designed to inspire learners, support educators, and make STEM education more engaging than ever!

Scaling SEL Across Cultures: What the Fun FRIENDS Study Teaches International Education Projects?

Recent research on early childhood SEL programs shows something powerful: when children develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills early on, we also see improvements in behavior, learning readiness, and long-term academic outcomes.

👉 SEL works best when it is embedded, intentional, and developmentally aligned.
👉 Early intervention can prevent learning and behavioral challenges later on.
👉 Schools are key spaces for scalable, preventive impact.

For international projects like EduTainSTEM, this reinforces a critical idea, innovation in education isn’t just about content or technology, but about integrating the human competencies that make learning possible.

📖 We unpack these insights and their implications for global education projects in our latest blog post: https://edutainstem.edublogs.org/2026/04/16/scaling-sel-across-cultures-what-the-fun-friends-study-teaches-international-education-projects/

🌟 New on the EdutainSTEM blog:

A new post based on the Scientific Report from the Women and Science Chair at Université Paris Dauphine-PSL uncovers a powerful answer: implicit bias.

💡 Discover how emotions, family influence, classroom role models, and even famous scientists shape students’ STEM choices, often without them realising it.

💬 And learn why Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is key to creating classrooms where every student feels they belong in STEM.

🎉 Today we held another highly productive and inspiring online meeting for the EdutainSTEM project – an important milestone as we prepare the Progress Meeting Report and finalize the key elements of our interim deliverables! 🚀

A major focus of our discussion was the planning of our big upcoming event in Cyprus, scheduled for January 2026, where partners will meet in person to test several of the innovative products currently being developed within the project. These tools – designed to boost STEM learning through engaging, AI-driven edutainment approaches – will soon be available for everyone, free and easily accessible.

During the meeting, we coordinated the remaining tasks for the report, aligned our next steps across work packages, and ensured that the development of our competence framework and AI-powered app continues smoothly toward the next project phase.

A huge thank you to all our dedicated partners for their commitment and collaboration:

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌

STEM isn’t just about thinking, it’s also about feeling! When kids feel curious, safe, and supported, they take braver risks and learn more deeply. In STEM, every “oops!” moment becomes an opportunity to build resilience and confidence.

Here, there are easy ways to bring emotions into STEM:

𝚂̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚛̲̲𝚝̲ ̲𝚠̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚑̲ ̲𝚊̲ ̲𝙵̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚕̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚐̲̲𝚜̲ ̲𝙲̲̲𝚑̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚌̲̲𝚔̲

Before beginning a project, ask students: “What’s your mood word today? Curious? Nervous? Sleepy? Excited?"

This simple moment builds emotional awareness and connection.

𝙼̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚔̲̲𝚎̲ “̲𝙼̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚜̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚔̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚜̲” ̲𝚂̲̲𝚘̲̲𝚖̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚑̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚐̲ ̲𝚝̲̲𝚘̲ ̲𝙲̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚕̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚋̲̲𝚛̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚎̲

Try saying: “Great! That mistake just gave us a clue.”

Students can even collect funny mistakes in a class “Oops Book.” It makes the learning journey lighter, kinder, and more fun.

𝚃̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚖̲ ̲𝚃̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚕̲̲𝚔̲ ̲𝙼̲̲𝚘̲̲𝚖̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚜̲

After group work, give one minute for teams to share one thing that worked well and one tricky thing. This helps students understand collaboration, not only the task.

𝚄̲̲𝚜̲̲𝚎̲ ̲𝙶̲̲𝚛̲̲𝚘̲̲𝚠̲̲𝚝̲̲𝚑̲-̲𝙼̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚍̲̲𝚜̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚝̲ ̲𝙻̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚐̲̲𝚞̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚐̲̲𝚎̲

Swap “I can’t do this” for “I can’t do this yet.” Little words matter. They shift the classroom atmosphere.

𝙼̲̲𝚘̲̲𝚍̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚕̲ ̲𝚈̲̲𝚘̲̲𝚞̲̲𝚛̲ ̲𝙾̲̲𝚠̲̲𝚗̲ ̲𝙻̲̲𝚎̲̲𝚊̲̲𝚛̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚒̲̲𝚗̲̲𝚐̲

Children learn from what we do more than what we say (Bandura, 1977).

Try saying out loud: “Hmm, I’m stuck. Let’s explore together.” It shows students that adults also learn, experiment, and try again.
