This time, the drawing stays.

Hand drawing is an important step in preparing our tile works: we mark directly onto the surface, with a quick synthetic sketch, the exact position of each tile — then it disappears underneath the panel.

A week in residence at without tiles, with paper and pencil, watercolours and the archive of found photographs we’ve been collecting for years.

Sorting through tile trims makes us happy and our hands dirty. The “3 Marias“ were born from a 1970s photograph, took shape on our studio workbench, and are now installed at .

The piece was comissioned by Santarém Municipality on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the português revolution that happend in April 25th 1974.
