For the past four years I have had the privilege of being a custodian and cofounder of Vadia, a hand-built wooden vessel constructed in 1982 by master craftsman José Humberto Da Mota in Old Town Funchal, Madeira.
During that time, Vadia became a foundation of a cultural preservation project recognised by the Funchal Municipality, the Madeira Tourist Board, and several of the island's leading cultural institutions. She was the subject of a documentary film, events, photography exhibitions, and a 40-year archive that documented her unique place in Madeiran maritime history.
The time has come to find her next custodian.
I am reaching out to individuals and organisations particularly within Madeira's hospitality, tourism, and cultural sector, who might see the value in acquiring not just a vessel, but a documented piece of Atlantic heritage with an authentic story, institutional recognition, and genuine community connection.
Vadia is being offered through a private best-offer process, with preference given to the right fit as much as the right price.
If this resonates with you or someone in your network, I would welcome a conversation.
