Massachusetts has just authorized administration of the RHDV2 Vaccine to rabbits - and House Rabbit Network has you covered!

RHDV is fatal to bunnies and currently does not have a treatment. House rabbits are at risk as the virus is persistent and stays in the environment on a multitude of surfaces (including greens, shoes, hay, etc.) With confirmed cases of RHDV rapidly spreading through the states, using proper disinfectants/employing bio-secure routines AND vaccinating your rabbits is how to keep them safe.

The vaccine is safe and effective. In fact, Medgene reports that in a clinical study, 100% of the rabbits with the vaccine survived when introduced to the live virus strain of RHDV2. Rabbits as young as 7 weeks are able to be vaccinated as well as pregnant does. "The vaccine should be fully protective 14 days after the second vaccine booster, which would be 35 days after the first dose."
