Weather Inversion

Most of us know that the temperature decreases with the height. That is why, if we go to the mountains we have to make sure we have warm clothes in a backpack even though it doesn’t seem it can be so cold up there. In most of the cased this is the right, logical way of understanding weather in the mountains.

However, there are some cases where the heavy, thick clouds cover the sky, but above them is much warmer and sunny. This type of the weather condition is called the weather inversion. If the clouds are relatively low, and we are high enough, there is a possibility to experience this weather phenomenon from the top.

Autumn and winter are the seasons during which we witness the weather inversions in Poland. Last Saturday the view from the top of the Snowy Summit (1603m o.s.l.) was magnificent. Clear sky over the head and sea of clouds at the feet. Take your chance. Maybe next week you will be lucky and experience this.
