🌊 Explore Flood Zones with Alix Engineering UK! 🌊

Did you know there are four different flood zones used by the Environment Agency to specify flood risk in England? Let's break it down:

1️⃣ Flood Zone 1 - Low Probability: Areas in this zone have a minimal chance of flooding, with less than a 0.1% annual probability of river or sea flooding. They're often described as having less than a 1 in 1,000 annual probability of flooding and are represented as 'clear' on flood zone maps.

2️⃣ Flood Zone 2 - Medium Probability: These areas face a moderate risk of flooding, with annual probabilities ranging between 1.0% and 0.1% for river flooding, and between 0.5% and 0.1% for sea flooding. They're typically land with a 1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000 annual probability of river flooding or a 1 in 200 to 1 in 1,000 annual probability of sea flooding, shown in light blue on flood zone maps.

3️⃣ Flood Zone 3a - High Probability: Zone 3a includes land with a 1% or greater annual probability of river flooding, or a 0.5% or greater annual probability of sea flooding. This zone, shown in dark blue, indicates areas with a 1 in 100 or greater annual probability of river flooding or a 1 in 200 or greater annual probability of sea flooding.

4️⃣ Flood Zone 3b - Functional Floodplain: Also known as the functional floodplain, this zone refers to land that stores or allows water to flow during flooding. It encompasses areas with a 3.3% or greater annual probability of flooding, regardless of existing flood risk management measures. Additionally, it includes land "designed to flood" during severe weather events.

Understanding these flood zones is crucial for effective flood risk management. At Alix Engineering UK, we're committed to providing innovative solutions tailored to each zone's unique challenges. Together, let's navigate flood risk with confidence! 💪🌊
