So, let's check out our conversation with Ania Dąbkowska, Design Consultant at Fireart Studio.

💫 What led you to become a design consultant?
My path to this role was somewhat winding. I have a background in humanities (I studied Swedish philology at university), and I’ve always been interested in User Experience and Service Design. Still, I’d entered the IT sector as a Project Manager. Many of the projects I supervised were Design-only or Design-heavy, and I naturally gravitated to the processes that strongly supported the design phase, such as workshops and research.
Eventually, I moved to the Consulting team and became a Design Consultant - and let me tell you, this is where I wanted to be all along.

💫 How do you collaborate with clients to understand their needs and preferences?
I am upfront about needing to understand the whole idea behind their product or service, not just what they want to present to us. I always ask about the users and the competition they might have because they will be the two future pillars of market adoption for the client’s product - they need to address the users’ needs and goals and be able to compete. However beautiful, smooth, and fast, whatever we design and implement will not be successful without these two aspects.

So, I tend to be very direct in asking about these aspects and transparent about what we can do to make the project successful.

💫 How do you stay updated on current design trends and innovations?
I read a lot of press and tend to go very wide, not just focus on the industry. It is very important to stay current about what's new in tech and how these innovations influence people's lives. I believe that as a design and software agency, we are responsible for building excellent and valuable products that will make people's lives better and more accessible. To do that, we need to understand technology's impact on our everyday lives.

💫 How do you measure the success of a design project?
There are several aspects to this - is the project well-designed in terms of logic and future implementation by developers? Is it intuitive, accessible, and easy-to-use? Does it fill a market niche or let users do something faster and better than competitors? Does it bring something new and unique to the world, or is it a polished classic concept? Does it fit within the client’s budget and timeline limitations? All of these need to be carefully balanced according to the requirements and constraints of our team and the client, and only then can we talk about success.
