Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan are rising as Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi says the group is facing what he called an “imposed war.”

Speaking to foreign diplomats in Kabul, Muttaqi claimed that Taliban attacks on Pakistan are defensive actions aimed at Pakistani military targets. He also accused Pakistan of violating a ceasefire, alleging that Pakistani forces launched attacks while both sides were engaged in negotiations reportedly mediated by Saudi Arabia.

The situation highlights growing instability along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, raising concerns about further escalation and its impact on regional security.

Global oil prices have dropped sharply after President Donald Trump suggested that the war in the Middle East could end soon. Brent crude, which had surged to $119.50 per barrel, has now fallen dramatically to around $89.75. In most countries, such a significant decline in international oil prices would quickly translate into relief for consumers through lower fuel prices.

However, the situation in Pakistan appears very different. Despite the global drop in crude oil prices and the arrival of new oil shipments, petrol prices in the country remain extremely high at Rs. 321 per liter. Instead of benefiting from the falling global market rates, ordinary citizens continue to face mounting financial pressure.

High fuel prices do not only affect transportation; they also drive up the cost of food, goods, and basic services. As a result, the economic burden on households continues to grow. Many citizens are now questioning why the benefit of declining global oil prices has not been passed on to the public.
