How do you test sensors (PNP/NPN, analog 4–20mA)?

For PNP/NPN sensors:
Apply power (usually 24VDC).
Use a multimeter on the output wire:
PNP: Output supplies +24V when ON
NPN: Output pulls to 0V when ON
Trigger the sensor manually to confirm switching.

For analog 4–20mA sensors:
Connect the sensor to the 24V supply loop.
Put the multimeter in series with the output.
Vary the process variable (pressure, level, etc.).
Check if the current changes linearly between 4 and 20 mA.
If it’s not linear → sensor is faulty or needs calibration.
