We provide an educational assessment and remedial service to children from grade 1- 5.
This is how I teach my dyslexic students to INSTANTLY read any two-syllable word!
The VCCV pattern is one of the most reliable syllable rules in English, but it must be taught explicitly and visually.
📚 VCCV Rule Breakdown (The Sandwich Rule):
1. Find the two Vowels (V & V).
2. Find the two Consonants (C & C) in between.
3. SLICE IT! You always divide the word right between the two consonants (V C // C V).
This multisensory, structured approach is essential for building decoding fluency.

Dyslexic students are brilliant, but the traditional classroom setup often works against their amazing visual and holistic processing.
As an expert, here are the 4 most important Do's and Don'ts you can implement today to stop the struggle and boost their success:
❌ DON'T rely on visual repetition or flashcards.
✅ DO use multisensory (hands-on) phonics.
❌ DON'T overwhelm them with long, complex instructions.
✅ DO use visual, chunked checklists.

My dyslexic students struggle most when they feel rushed. STOP pushing for speed before you teach them how to decode the word!
❌ Stop Doing This: Asking your child to "just try harder" or "read faster." This only triggers the fear of failure and anxiety, which worsens their reading fluency.
✅ Before Doing This: Teach them syllable division (like the VCCV rule). You must equip them with a structured, visual method to break the word down. When they know how to approach the word, the fear goes away.
The dyslexic brain needs structure, not speed.
