On May 28, 1998, Pakistan became the world's 7th nu-clear power after successfully conducting its first nu-clear tests.

This achievement followed India's nu-clear tests earlier that month and culminated decades of efforts starting with Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's initiative in 1972.
