In Kolkata, the first underwater metro in India has completed a successful trial run. Two six-coach trains were created for the trials on a 4.8-kilometer track between Esplanade and Howrah Maidan as part of the Kolkata East-West Metro Project.
The line, which is scheduled to open in November, traverses 520 metres (1700 feet) in just 45 seconds while passing 32 metres (105 feet) below the Hooghly River. India's deepest metro station will be the soon-to-be-opened Howrah Maidan metro station, which is a component of the new line.
