From Problems to Solutions. Communities Driving Environmental Justice.

Day 2 of the five-day training under the "Empowering Women for Peace and Environmental Justice in Swat" project continued with a strong focus on transforming environmental challenges into community-led solutions.

Organized by Hashoo Foundation with the support of UNDP Pakistan, participants explored the fundamentals of Social Action Projects (SAPs), identified root causes of local environmental issues, and developed practical project designs to address community priorities. The sessions also covered rights-based approaches to environmental justice, stakeholder mapping, and the importance of gender equality in building resilient and inclusive communities.

By strengthening participants' capacity to design locally driven initiatives and engage with key environmental stakeholders, the training is laying the foundation for sustainable environmental governance, peaceful conflict resolution, and climate resilience across Swat.

Women Leading Peace. Communities Advancing Environmental Justice

Hashoo Foundation, with the support of UNDP Pakistan DHL, successfully commenced the first five-day training under the "Empowering Women for Peace and Environmental Justice in Swat" project.

The training brings together 20 Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) and Insider Mediators from across Swat to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in environmental justice, peacebuilding, insider mediation, and community-led climate action.

The opening day focused on understanding the relationship between environmental degradation, conflict dynamics, and community resilience. Participants explored the role of insider mediators in promoting peaceful dialogue, examined barriers to women's participation in peacebuilding and environmental governance, and engaged in practical conflict mapping exercises using local case studies. The sessions also highlighted the importance of women's leadership in building resilient and socially cohesive communities.

Over the next four days, participants will further strengthen their capacities to design and implement community-led Social Action Projects (SAPs), promote dialogue, access formal environmental grievance mechanisms, and contribute to more peaceful, inclusive, and climate-resilient communities across Swat.

Women bear the heaviest burden of forest loss, they should also share the rewards of its protection. Inclusive conservation isn't just fair, it's more effective.
