Personalized or individualized learning takes place in classical classrooms with a minor tweak. Here is an example:

Assignment prompt: Everyone has to write a 500 words essay on Mount Everest. Hand it in by the following Monday. This assignment is graded.

Minor tweak: Everyone has to write a 500-1000 words essay on any of the ten highest peaks in the world. Along with the essay, you can choose to demonstrate any visual information.

You will also be handed a reflection form to reflect on why you chose a specific peak to write about.

Submit your first draft by Wednesday. Followed by a peer review and my feedback. Now, let's discuss the rubric for this essay, so everyone knows what kind of information you'd need to collect.

Why does the minor tweak matter:
- The teachers get to know the students in terms of their interests.
- The teachers get to incorporate metacognition into the process.
- The students get to choose something that matters to them and then they invest in that assignment.
- The students enter an unchartered territory of another peak they hadn't studied and move from the "known" to the "unknown."

So, what are your thoughts on this? Is personalized learning possible in classical classrooms in Pakistan with minor tweaks?
