This is because the rapidly changing conditions (weather/ anthropogenic/ natural) have significant consequences on the eco system services offered by these watersheds. Appropriate integrated watershed management practices encourages reduced erosion and sedimentation, good quality water for multiple use (drinking, irrigation, hydropower and eco system services etc.), recharge of groundwater, perennial stream flows, improved life of downstream structures (reservoirs, dams, headwork, canals, hydropower infrastructure etc.), increased storage of rainwater for use during peak demand period and use of alternate energy, which may be helpful in mitigating the climate change induced impacts including floods, droughts and global warming.
