The Apollo 10 mission was a dress rehearsal for NASA's first moon landing, which took place two months later. The astronauts on the mission, Tom Stafford, John Young, and Gene Cernan, orbited the moon in their command module, Charlie Brown, and lunar module, Snoopy. Stafford and Cernan then flew Snoopy to within 50,000 feet of the moon's surface before returning to dock with Charlie Brown
