Six Family Members Killed in Fatal Karakoram Highway Accident in Kohistan

KOHISTAN: A devastating road accident on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) near Taris Banda in Upper Kohistan claimed the lives of six people, including a child on Tuesday as they were traveling from Gilgit toward Rawalpindi.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle lost control and crashed in the Taris Banda area, resulting in the deaths of all six occupants. The victims included the driver and members of the same family, sources said.

Initial information indicates that the deceased belonged to Muzaffarabad, Sahiwal and Khanewal. Local residents, rescue personnel and law enforcement officials rushed to the scene soon after the incident and launched recovery operations.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the crash. An investigation has been initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The tragedy has cast a shadow of grief over the affected families and serves as another reminder of the risks associated with travel on mountainous highways, particularly during long-distance journeys.

Speaking with locals Imtiaz-ul-Haq thanked the people of Passu for their trust and support, emphasising his commitment to serving the region and working for the welfare, progress and prosperity of all communities across Hunza.

As the Gilgit-Baltistan elections draw closer, political activities across Hunza continue to gain momentum, with candidates intensifying outreach efforts to connect with voters throughout the district.
