The College of Teacher Education (CTE) womenโ€™s division delivered a masterclass on the board by securing a perfect eight match points to claim gold at the Laragway 2026 Chess competition held April 27 at the NEMSU new library.

The "Marivellea Queens" outmaneuvered rival departments in every round to finish the tournament with a flawless record, utilizing aggressive traps to corner their opponentsโ€™ kings.

This powerhouse roster featured Allana Balmis, Evelyn Deocades, Angel Shen Campios, and Wenelyn Curada, each of whom secured vital victories to keep the departmentโ€™s undefeated streak alive.

โ€œDuring the game, we felt very happy and at the same time nervous,โ€ admitted Team Captain Evelyn Deocades, who kept encouraging her teammates to focus and maintain calmness during the game.

Deocades noted that their strategy relied on a tactical puzzle they learned during their training to help them easily remember the tactics they would employ in the actual game.

Following their golden performance, Deocades confirmed their intention to return and defend the title in the next Laragway competition.

With their Laragway title secured and their reputation as NEMSUโ€™s dominant force solidified, the Marivellea Queens now turn their sights toward conquering the regionโ€™s elite at the upcoming Local Mast competition.
