The Department of Science and Technology - Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) welcomes the delegation all the way from Eastern Visayas: representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Catbalogan City, and Provincial Science and Technology (S&T) Office - Samar.
As part of the DOST and Catbalogan City LGU’s Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) partnership, MIRDC was designated as one of the agencies to host the delegates for a facility tour and learn more about the Center's programs and services in hopes of exploring potential areas for collaboration that would benefit their region.
The tour highlights the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen), featuring the various state-of-the-art 3D printer technologies that are housed within MIRDC. The Center’s experts also showcases the vast potential of using additive manufacturing technology, such as being utilized within the healthcare industry and even used in improving the country’s defense capabilities.

DOST-MIRDC warmly welcomed Dr. Leah J. Buendia, DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development, during her RDI visit on April 30, 2026, at the DOST-MIRDC AMCen Board Room, Bicutan, Taguig City.

The meeting served as a fruitful and meaningful discussion on MIRDC’s research, development, and innovation initiatives, highlighting opportunities to further strengthen collaboration and advance science-driven solutions for national development.

During the discussions, key challenges were identified, including the need to enhance research capabilities, strengthen industry-academe linkages, and accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies across sectors. The conversation also addressed pressing challenges in energy conservation amid ongoing crises, such as rising energy costs, supply uncertainties, and the need for more sustainable and efficient manufacturing practices. To address these, proposed solutions and interventions focused on expanding collaborative projects, improving access to advanced manufacturing facilities, promoting energy-efficient technologies, and strengthening capacity-building programs to equip stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Together, we continue to transform ideas into solutions through research, innovation, and collaboration.
