We are thrilled to announce that the University has officially received the Letters of Patent for the invention โ€œA Device and Method for a Multi-Stage Cacao Processorโ€ with the registration number PH12023050135.

This innovative system automates key post-harvest cacao processesโ€”mucilage extraction, bean fermentation, and dryingโ€”ensuring more efficient, uniform, and higher-quality cacao production. With enhanced airflow, uniform mixing, and improved water coverage, this device supports farmers by boosting productivity while reducing labor-intensive steps.

Our brilliant inventors:
Dr. Roger C. Montepio
Engr. Ryan M. Abenoja
Engr. Ruel F. Tuyogon
Engr. Drexand S. Perocho
Engr. Roland R. Bayron
โ€”from the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Related Sciencesโ€”continue to push forward innovation that serves communities and industries.

This achievement advances:
SDG 2: Zero Hunger โ€” by strengthening sustainable cacao production and value-adding processes;
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure โ€” through breakthrough technology that supports industrial growth and agricultural modernization.

The invention is now open for licensing and commercialization.
Interested partners are welcome to collaborate and help bring this technology to the hands of cacao farmers and processors.
Hereโ€™s to homegrown innovation creating real-world impact.

Charting the Next Horizon with IMPACT NXT ๐ŸŒŠ

At SalikSYNC: The 1st National IMPACT Conference, the plenary session with Dr. Luis Sison (UP Diliman), Mr. Peter Immanuel Tenido (De La Salle University), Engr. Benjamin Mirasol (Ateneo de Manila University), and Dr. Jeffrey Dellosa (Caraga State University) unveiled a new chapter in the countryโ€™s technology transfer journey โ€” one defined by growth, collaboration, and renewed purpose.

IMPACT NXT will strengthen the foundations laid by its predecessor by refining policies and processes, developing competency frameworks, and expanding its reach to bring 26 new Technology Business Incubators into the fold. From 34 to 60 institutions, this next phase represents more than just numbers โ€” it symbolizes a collective commitment to empower more innovators, bridge more ideas to industry, and create a future where Filipino research drives real change.

When institutions work together, ideas transform into impact, and innovation becomes a shared journey toward a better Philippines. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Closing the Innovation Gap: Rebuilding the Foundations of IMPACT NXT ๐ŸŒ‰

โ€œThe DOST today is not only funding research. It is building the bridge from research to industry.โ€

In her presentation, Ms. Russell Pili, Chief Technology Transfer Officer of DOSTโ€“PCIEERD, emphasized that empowering people is the true foundation of sustainable innovation. She shared that as universities expand their technology transfer offices, their capacity and commercial success also grow.

She also outlined the goals of IMPACT NXTโ€”to strengthen institutional capabilities for technology transfer, build a skilled pool of technology transfer professionals, and help universities and R&D institutions bring research from invention to market adoption.

Her message was clear: training is never a sunk cost. Investing in people strengthens the system that turns ideas into impact, ensuring that Filipino innovations continue to move from the lab to the lives of those who need them most. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Across the Horizons: Transforming Intellectual Property into Innovation with IMPACT โš™๏ธ

During SalikSYNC: The 1st National IMPACT Conference held on November 6 in Bacolod City, Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director of DOSTโ€“PCIEERD, highlighted how the Council continues to steer the countryโ€™s innovation ecosystem through the IP Management Program for Academic Institutions and Research and Development Institutions Commercializing Technologies (IMPACT).

Since its launch, IMPACT has supported 34 institutions with โ‚ฑ109 million in funding, helped institutionalize IP policies across this network, and raised technology commercialization from 4% to 18%. These milestones have also strengthened the Philippinesโ€™ standing in the Global Innovation Index, reflecting the growing maturity of its research and technology transfer landscape.

With over 3,089 IPs filed, 2,122 granted, and 1,029 TLAs signed since the programโ€™s inception, Dr. Paringit reaffirmed that DOST-PCIEERDโ€™s mission remains clear โ€” to make science serve society by turning Filipino ingenuity into innovation that uplifts lives. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ
