The Lord’s Supper

22 “While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” (Mark 14: 22-25)

18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.

The Lord’s Supper

23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11: 23–25)
***************************************

The night before Jesus was to sacrifice His life on the cross, Jesus instituted The Lord’s Supper. He used the elements of bread and wine as symbols to represent His body and blood to be shed at Calvary the following day, Friday. And His command to His followers is: “Do this in remembrance of Me.” We are commanded to observe Communion or Eucharist to remind us that Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice to save those who will put their faith in Him…those who would BELIEVE.

Continuing 1 Corinthians 11, God says:

26 “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.”
(1 Corinthians 11: 26–29).

Verses 26–29–The bread and the wine remained as such. These elements DO NOT become the body and blood of Christ when the priest prays over them. And no one is taking Christ’s body nor drinking His blood. No Transubstantiation took place when Christ instituted The Lord’s Supper. It’s the wrong interpretation of John 6: 52–58). And whenever Communion is observed until this day, no Transubstantiation ever takes place. The bread and wine are just symbols to represent His body and blood. So no one should kneel, genuflect, hold vigil, and pray at the bread and the wine, for that is idolatry. That is not the authentic Jesus Christ, just as statues of Sto. Nino are not the baby Jesus.

WHY DO WE OBSERVE THE LORD’S SUPPER or COMMUNION?

1.It’s a memorial for Christ’s sacrifice on the cross—
Jesus said: “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

2.You announce His death until His second coming—
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup [of wine], you proclaim the Lord’s death until He [Jesus] comes.” (1 Corinthians 11: 26)

Why is Christ’s death on the cross so important?

It’s because Christ’s death, burial and resurrection is what forgives sins and saves those who would BELIEVE. (1 Corinthians 15: 1–4). As Paul would put it, the gospel is God’s power to save to everyone who BELIEVES (Romans 1: 16–17;
1 Corinthians 15: 2). Taking The Lord’s Supper or Communion does not forgive sins nor does it save anyone. It’s only a memorial.
