[SIGMA RHOAN ATTAINS PRESTIGIOUS UP SOCIAL SCIENCES AND PHILOSOPHY PRODUCTIVITY SYSTEM AWARD]

The Sigma Rho Fraternity would like to congratulate Dr. Mike Muega ‘90 for receiving the esteemed UP Social Sciences and Philosophy Productivity System Award of Batch 2024-2026. As a professor in the Philosophy of Education and Values Education, he embodies excellence and leadership in the field of education.

This award ranks Dr. Mike Muega ‘90 as a Social Scientist II/UP Scholar II. [Honoring the Life, Leadership, and Legacy of Victor Sumulong † ’68]

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity honors the life and legacy of Victor Sumulong † ’68, former Mayor of Antipolo City, Congressman, and government official on the 80th anniversary of his birth today, May 19, 2026. Victor Sumulong † ’68 led a life filled with decades of public service that left a lasting mark on local governance and community developmen. He devoted much of his life to the service of the Filipino people, particularly the people of Antipolo, through principled leadership and steadfast dedication to public office.

Victor Sumulong † ’68 held several key positions in government throughout his distinguished career. He began his career in public service as an Assistant Secretary of the Department of Local Government and Community Development in 1975. From there, he transitioned to a role as Undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government from 1992 to 1996 under former President Fidel V. Ramos. After a brief respite from government work, he was elected as Representative of Antipolo's Lone District, serving from 1998 to 2004, before being elected as Representative of Antipolo's Second District upon its creation in 2004, a role he filled until 2007. Victor Sumulong † ’68 was tireless in his devotion to the Filipino people as his stint in the legislature was followed by his election as Mayor of Antipolo City, with his term lasting from 2007 until his passing in 2009.

Throughout his years in public office, Victor Sumulong † ’68 became known for his commitment to local governance and grassroots public service. His leadership contributed to the growth and continued development of Antipolo City, while his work in national government reflected his dedication to strengthening public institutions and local administration. His career stood as an example of consistent and meaningful service to both community and country.

His life and service embody the Sigma Rhoan ideals of leadership in action, guided by integrity, responsibility, and commitment to the public good. The Fraternity joins his family, friends, colleagues, and the people he served in remembering a life dedicated to public service and nation-building.

[SIGMA RHOANS DISTINGUISH THEMSELVES IN THE MAGALLONA CUP 2026: Excellence in Moot Court Competition]

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity proudly congratulates Ferdie Manahan ’21, Day Angeles ’24, and Joey Florendo ’24 for their achievements in the Merlin M. Magallona Cup 2026, organized by the UP Law Debate and Moot Court Union.

Ferdie Manahan ’21 and Joey Florendo ’24, competing as teammates, emerged as Grand Finalists in the competition. Ferdie Manahan ’21 was also recognized as the 7th Best Oralist of the Preliminary Round, while Joey Florendo ’24 was named the 4th Best Oralist of the Preliminary Round. Meanwhile, Day Angeles ’24’s team received both the Best Memorial for Respondent and Best Memorial for Petitioner awards. Their performances reflect strong analytical skills, legal writing, and preparation in one of UP Law’s premier moot court competitions.

Their achievements reflect the Sigma Rhoan commitment to excellence in legal scholarship and competitive mooting. Through competitions such as the Magallona Cup, Sigma Rhoans continue to uphold the Fraternity’s tradition of distinction in the field of law and legal education.
