In an effort to help drive knowledge on gene-edited pigs, PIC and parent company Genus plc collaborated with the University of the Philippines Los Baños Institute of Animal Science for a hybrid seminar.

The Genus plc and PIC Global teams recently shared the latest developments on PRRS-resistant pigs during a presentation titled “PRRS-Resistant Pigs: Global Update and Next Steps for the PH Swine Industry.”

Genus plc Chief Scientific Officer and Head of R&D Elena Rice discussed the development and characterization of gene-edited, PRRS-resistant pigs, while Genus plc Director of Global Regulatory Affairs Clint Nesbitt provided updates on the global regulatory review and approval process. Mr. Reimond Corona, Project Senior Technical Specialist of the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP), also shared insights on the regulatory guidelines for gene-edited animals in the Philippines.

Also supporting these efforts is Dr. Angel Manabat, PIC South and East Asia Business Development Sales Manager, who works closely with the PIC and Genus global teams to help advance the regulatory approval process for PRRS-resistant pigs in the Philippines.
