In the third week of our project, we collected wild mangrove seedlings and planted them in sand-filled pots. By nurturing these vital coastal trees, we learned about their growth and the crucial role they play in protecting shorelines and supporting diverse wildlife. This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of mangrove conservation.

Today marks the second week of our S.T.U.D.E.N.T.S D.I.G Work Immersion, and we're continuing our mission with mangrove tree planting! Our commitment to environmental stewardship grows stronger with each sapling we plant, enhancing coastal protection, biodiversity, and planetary health. Together, we're not just planting trees; we're sowing the seeds of a sustainable future. Let's nurture these mangroves and watch them grow, reflecting our dedication to making a positive impact. 🌱🌿

Mangrove trees are a type of shrubs and trees found in the intertidal zones along the coast. These trees play a vital role in the ecosystems; their deep roots aid in the binding and construction of soils, offer refuge to numerous species, and serve as excellent breeding grounds for a large portion of the world's fish, shrimp, crabs, and other shellfish. These trees act as natural barriers that help to disperse the storm's swelling storm surges, which is particularly beneficial for the populous regions nearby.
We got a lot done on the first day of the S.T.U.D.E.N.T.S D.I.G work immersion. They first acquaint us with our surroundings, our tasks, the definition of mangrove plants, their varieties, and their benefits. Second, we get to work making the potting soil on which the mangrove seeds will be sown. We completed placing 400 potting bags in a designated area. After watering the potting soil, we were satisfied with our work and headed home.
