While industry groups say the ₱500 level is still a worst-case scenario, they acknowledge that continued fuel increases could make it possible without timely intervention.

The issue reflects a broader inflation trend, as rising fuel costs are also expected to affect other basic goods such as rice and vegetables.

In response, the government is considering measures like fuel tax relief and stronger support for local hog raisers to help stabilize prices and reduce the burden on consumers.
