The goal of the workshop is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to make data-backed decisions and to evaluate the economic viability of university innovations, such as the AVAMOS Innovations Groupโs technologies for transforming mussel waste into value-added materials and applying them in environmental remediation.
The lessons learned will help participants in determining whether commercialization is the best pathway for translating university research outputs into beneficial impact on society.
We are also pleased to engage our collaborators from the University of the Philippines Visayas, Capiz State UniversityโPontevedra Campus, West Visayas State University, and Chandy's Integrated Farm in this collaborative learning initiative.
Gain practical knowledge on translating research results into high yield impact, value-driven innovations.
See you on the dates!

Oton, Iloilo โ The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and the Municipality of Oton, Iloilo, through its Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), officially formalized a partnership on March 10, 2026, through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Oton Municipal Hall Complex in Oton, Iloilo.
The collaboration supports the project titled โBaseline Monitoring of Selected Emerging Contaminants in Iloilo River and their Removal by Adsorptive Photodegradation Using Modified Carbon/TiOโ Nanostructuresโ (AVAMOS Tubig), funded by the Department of Science and Technology โ National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP).
The MOA was signed by UPV Chancellor Dr. Clement C. Camposano and Oton Mayor Hon. Sofronio L. Fusin, Jr., with Dr. Concepcion P. Ponce, AVAMOS Tubig Project Leader, and Mrs. Menchie G. Paniero, Head of MENRO Oton, serving as witnesses.
Under the agreement, the Municipality of Oton, through its MENRO, will provide technical assistance and the necessary resources for the collection and testing of water samples from four selected monitoring stations along the Batiano River. Both parties recognize the importance of collaboration in ensuring accurate sampling, efficient field operations, and the proper management of collected environmental data.
Also present during the MOA signing was Dr. Rhodella A. Ibabao, UPV Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development and Project Leader of the project titled โRevitalizing an Urban River: Stakeholder Engagement in Improving the Water Quality of the Iloilo-Batiano River Basin.โ
The AVAMOS Tubig Project aims to develop hybrid technologies that combine the advantages of biobased adsorbents and sunlight-activated photocatalysts for the efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable removal of emerging contaminants from plastics found in the Iloilo-Batiano River Basin.
This ceremonial MOA signing further strengthens research, innovation, and community engagement efforts between the academe and local government units in promoting the protection and sustainable management of river systems.
