On Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11:34 AM, a wellโknown Filipino bug bounty hunter a respected figure and cybersecurity expert publicly shared that his inactive Instagram account received an attempted login alert.
Let that sink in.
This is someone widely regarded as a guru in cybersecurity, with strong OPSEC practices. The idea that this happened due to weak security or negligence is extremely unlikely.
So I dug deeper.

Why this matters:
- Cybercriminal groups are actively targeting Philippine organizations, from local businesses to national corporations.
- Stolen data may be sold, leaked, or exploited, damaging reputations and enabling fraud.
- The number of affected companies keeps growing โ and itโs only August.
Our hope: Before September arrives, we donโt want this list to grow any longer.
โ
Recommendations for businesses and institutions:
- Regularly update and patch systems.
- Train staff on phishing and social engineering risks.
