I discovered this song when I saw The Bodyguard: The Musical. Whitney's character Rachel actually sang it—kinda caught my ears and heart!

Although it might be referring to children, you kinda find your own interpretation of the song. By claiming that "Jesus loves me," you find your own heart, you own your voice, and you indulge in the space you know is yours. It's very comforting and reassuring that Jesus loves us no matter where we are or what we're going through. I do believe that we find faith in misery and that we find hope in despair—no matter what religion or spirituality we have.

"Always guide me, Lord, I pray" is such a universal, humane line, asking for guidance in everyday life. Even though we may be undeserving and stubborn, Jesus still loves us. Personally, I find peace in His love. I find sanctuary in His heart. If I were to choose anything faithful in my life, I would choose to reside in His heart to shield me from anything bad, scary, and unfortunate. And just like the song, "it feels good to know" that someone like Him does love me. And "it feels good to know" that even though you feel like you're all alone, He is always there for you. Always has been. Even though you're lonely and think help's never gonna come, you're never alone.

Now that adulting and quarter-life have been so difficult, I'm very much thankful for this song. Maybe it's one of those things that're sent to you to make you feel loved. It's Jesus's love.

: Nakatirik ang araw, tumataginting ang makina ng mga kotse, at mainit ang simoy ng hangin. Sa isip ni Sierra, ngayon ang perfect time para ilabas ang cutout ng kaniyang idol.

Habang kinakaladkad niya ang taong cardboard sa sidewalk, may boses na pumigil sa kaniya.

“Ma’am Sierra, totoo po bang hinagisan mo ng laptop ang employee mo?”

She rolls her eyes habang inaakbayan ang cutout, “Ito na naman tayo, eh! Mga chismis at paninira as always. Uulitin ko po, hindi po ako pro-China.”

Bumitin sa hangin ang kaguluhan ng kaniyang mga salita, “Hindi naman ako marunong mag-laptop, saan niyo ba nakukuha ‘yang mga ganiyang isyu?”

Tumango na lamang ang reporter, subalit sinubukan ulit niyang mas alamin ang totoong sagot ni Sierra, “Ma’am, pero tinapon niy—“

She cuts him off, “Para maganda ang quality ko sa calls, siyempre, gumagamit ako ng laptop. Pero hindi talaga ako maalam dito, eh… Hindi nga afford ng company ko na ibili ako ng gusto kong laptop, kaya ako bumili nitong laptop… Shhh… secret na lang natin.”

Napataas ang kilay ng reporter sa pagkindat ni Sierra.

“Ahhh… ganun po ba, Ma’am?” siguro’y dala ng init at stress, hindi na lang sana niya ipagpapatuloy ang interview. Ngunit bago niya patayin ang camera, nagsalita ulit si Sierra. Bumalik sa reporter ang spark of hope na baka may connect na ang sunod niyang sasabihin.

“Pero ang mahal nga rin ng laptop na ito. ‘Pag may files, pinapagawa ko na lang sa katrabaho ko,” tumingin siya sa likod at nginitian ang cutout. Deep down, kahit cardboard lang ang tatay niya, alam niyang proud ito sa kaniya kahit ‘di siya marunong mag-laptop. Agad niya itong hinatak sa kaniyang tabi, niyakap nang mahigpit, at nagpatuloy sa pagsasalita.

Ngumiti na lamang ang reporter at nagpasalamat bago pa mas tumagal ang engkuwentrong ito.

Hindi man natin malalaman ang totoong nais sabihin ni Sierra, at least alam natin na hindi siya marunong mag-laptop. Kaya siya’y maturuan na sana. Hindi natin alam, baka siya na ang maging sunod na secretary ng DepEd — o kaya nama’y maging sunod na bise presidente?

Everything's alright because it's opening night! Jesus Christ! Sooo good. From props, to dances, to costumes, to vocal artistry—I couldn't emphasize more how excellent the production and cast are. It's arguably the most spectacular theater I've seen yet. ✝️🤩
