The Philippine Eagle Week (PEW) is celebrated every June 4-10 of each calendar year by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 79, series of 1999. We celebrate the existence and survival of the Philippine eagle, our National Bird and the flagship species in the battle to conserve the country's rich biodiversity.

The Philippine eagle is one of the world's most rarest birds. It is a massive bird of prey that can only be found on four Philippine islands: Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao.

It is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful forest raptors. However, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed them as severely endangered, with only 400 pairs remaining in the wild.

โ€ขPhilippine eagles are solitary and territorial creatures.
โ€ขThe Philippine eagle pair needs about 4000-11000 hectares of forest land to thrive in the wild, depending on the number of prey items in the area.
โ€ขThey take 5-7 years to sexually mature.
โ€ขIt only lays a single egg every two years. They wait for their offspring to make it on their own (usually within two years) before producing another offspring.
โ€ขThey typically nest on large dipterocarp trees like the native species Lauan.
โ€ขThey can live up to 40+ years in captivity but probably much less in the wild
โ€ขThe egg is incubated alternately by both eagle parents for about 58 โ€“ 60 days, with the male eagle doing most of the hunting during the first 40 days of the eagletโ€™s life while the female stays with the young.
