A new World Bank-supported effort highlights how transforming rural areas can directly improve livelihoods for Filipino farmers and fisherfolk by linking them to better markets, jobs, and services.

Building on ongoing rural development programs, the initiative focuses on:
(i) Improving farm productivity and infrastructure like roads and storage;
(ii) Strengthening value chains so farmers can sell beyond local markets;
(iii) Expanding access to jobs and agribusiness opportunities; and
(iv) Supporting more resilient and inclusive rural growth.

Past investments in rural transformation have already shown strong results—raising incomes, creating jobs, and improving market access for over a million beneficiaries.

Through the Nutrition Improvement for Community Empowerment (NICE) Project (ADB Loan 2348-INO [SF]), PRIMEX mobilized specialists that supported national and local partners in improving food fortification and nutrition services for mothers and children under five.

Working alongside government agencies and community-based organizations, the team helped strengthen project planning, implementation, and monitoring while also supporting capacity building, procurement processes, governance systems, and community feedback mechanisms.

The initiative contributes to more effective nutrition policies and better health outcomes for vulnerable families across communities.
