PRRC Livelihood Facility 11/11/2016

PRRC Livelihood Center Inauguration
The PRRC inaugurated its first Livelihood Center along the Estero de Aviles in Barangay 634 in Sampaloc Manila. The said Livelihood facility is the first of several projected PRRC Livelihood Centers that will house and showcase the PRRC Livelihood Program’s finished products. The facility also serves as the frontline on the sale and marketing of these items that directly benefit the people living in the vicinity of the PRRC’s projects.
The PRRC Livelihood Program is the result of the PRRC’s desire to uplift the lives of the people living along our waterways and those whom the PRRC have relocated to its different housing projects to give way for easement recovery and waterway rehabilitation. These projects are not only huge steps in the PRRC’s fight to rehabilitate the Pasig River and its environs, these also improve the living conditions of the people by moving them to a healthier environment that is more conducive for human living.
Water Hyacinth products such as bags, table runners, and slippers are the main highlight of the program. Water Hyacinths are water lily like plants that were once considered as pests as they thrive in dirty water, swiftly multiplying in alarming numbers therefore blocking our waterways. Due to the efforts of the PRRC, this environmental pest is now the main raw material for creating functional and aesthetically pleasing products that are being produced by the people who are either living along the waterways and those who have been relocated to other areas by the PRRC.
The Inauguration was attended by several PRRC personnel lead by their respective division heads as well as barangay chairmen Alfredo Ariz, Lino T. Lim Jr. and Alona Alfonso from barangays 410, 640, and 633 respectively.
PRRC Executive Director Hon. Ramil R. Tan and Brgy. 633 Chairwoman Hon. Alona Alfonso graced the event in serving as the ribbon cutters to officially open the facility for business.

PRRC Executive Director Tan became the center’s very first customer by purchasing a hand woven bag. Our guest barangay officials then followed suit and purchased several items from the store. Guests from our Pasong Tamo Creek partner, the Quezon City Medical Society was also among the first batch of happy customers.
