A landfill fire in Navotas City has been burning since April 10, releasing harmful air pollutants across Metro Manila, Malabon, and Obando, Bulacan.

Health risks from the haze: Burning waste emits PM2.5, methane, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, dioxins, and VOCs. DOH warns this can cause difficulty breathing, coughing, asthma attacks, eye irritation, and worsen heart/lung conditions.

Protect yourself:
1. Wear N95/KN95 masks — cloth masks won't block ultra-fine particles.

2. Stay indoors with windows/doors closed when air quality is poor.

3. Limit outdoor activity, especially children, elderly, pregnant women, and those with asthma.

4. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, chest tightness, or metallic taste.
