Peej’s debut album Sadtown is about loneliness, but not the aesthetic, rainy-window kind that indie movies love. It’s the quieter, slightly awkward version that shows up when independence stops feeling empowering and starts feeling suspiciously like isolation. The 13-track album explores solitude as both choice and coping mechanism. The result isn’t revolutionary, but it’s thoughtful and importantly, it sounds like someone actually sat with these feelings rather than just aestheticizing them.

Written and mostly produced in Peej’s bedroom during the pandemic, the arrangements stay deliberately restrained: soft synths, gentle guitars, and beats that never try too hard to impress you. Songs like “Same Mistakes” and “I Broke My Heart” play out like half-arguments with himself rather than tidy confessionals, which makes the whole project feel more honest than dramatic. By the end, Sadtown documents the messier middle stages of emotional breakthroughs in groovy detail.
