𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 |A Scout’s Courage: SJNHS Student Earns Recognition in ESTC 2026

‎PILI, Camarines Sur — What began as a simple encouragement from his parents eventually became a journey of leadership, courage, and service for San Juan National High School (SJNHS) student Eduardo P. Vasquez III.
‎
‎Eduardo, 15, represented SJNHS as the sole participant in the Emergency Service Training Course (ESTC) held from May 6 to 11 at Camp Rodriguez Santos in Cadlan-Palestina, Pili, Camarines Sur.
‎
‎Initially uncertain about joining the training, Eduardo admitted feeling intimidated upon arriving at the camp due to unfamiliar surroundings and participants.
‎
‎“Di ako makakapasok diyan, wala naman akong kilala eh,” he recalled before the leadership voting began.
‎
‎Despite his hesitation, Eduardo chose to step out of his comfort zone by nominating himself for a leadership position. As the training progressed, he gradually built friendships and confidence through shared activities and teamwork with fellow scouts.
‎
‎His perseverance and active participation eventually earned him the position of ESC for Finance Batch 2026-(005). He also received the awards “Most Active” and “Most Active in Road Safety” during the course.
‎
‎Before attaining his current Outdoorsman rank, Eduardo first achieved the Pathfinder rank, where he developed discipline, leadership, and survival skills through years of scouting activities and training.
‎
‎“My parents, teachers, adult leaders, and most especially my perseverance to achieve a childhood dream,” he shared.
‎
‎SJNHS BSP Coordinator and Outfit Advisor Sir Jason D. Brioso, WBH, commended Eduardo for his dedication and courage in participating in the rigorous training program. Brioso also acknowledged Eduardo’s willingness to represent the school despite being the lone participant.
‎
‎He further shared that he guided and encouraged Eduardo to join the ESTC to help him strengthen his leadership skills, confidence, and commitment to the ideals of scouting.
‎
‎“On behalf of San Juan National High School, I would like to express our deepest pride and appreciation for your participation in the Emergency Service Training Course (ESTC). Your commitment to such rigorous training speaks volumes about your character and dedication to Scouting ideals,” Brioso stated.
‎
‎For Eduardo, scouting became more than just wearing a uniform or earning badges. He said the experience taught him resilience, leadership, and the value of serving alongside others.
‎
‎Among his most memorable experiences in scouting was meeting new people, learning about their struggles, and growing together through shared challenges.
‎
‎When asked for advice to aspiring scouts, Eduardo answered with the scouting motto:
‎
‎“Be Prepared” or “Laging Handa.”
‎
‎“Just be ready when the time comes,” he added.
‎
‎Eduardo’s achievements continue to bring pride to San Juan National High School and reflect the values of courage, discipline, leadership, and service promoted by the scouting movement.
