“The Bicol University Graduate School Students Alliance for Gender Equality proudly attended the 2025 MaGADyon Awards, themed ‘Lead Like Babaylan: Filipinas.’ The event celebrated the strength, leadership, and transformative roles of Filipino women, drawing inspiration from the babaylan as a symbol of empowerment, wisdom, and resilience.
Through their participation, the organization demonstrated its continued commitment to advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment, aligning with the values highlighted during Women’s Month. The MaGADyon Awards served as a platform to honor outstanding Filipinas who have made significant contributions to their communities and various fields, inspiring the attendees to further promote inclusive leadership and social change.
The experience provided the members with valuable insights and motivation to strengthen their initiatives, reinforcing their role as advocates for safe, equitable, and empowering spaces for all.”
“In celebration of Women’s Month, the Bicol University Graduate School Students Alliance for Gender Equality conducted an extension project in Barangay Dap-Dap, Legazpi City, aimed at bringing the academe closer to the community. The activity was held in coordination with the barangay, headed by Barangay Captain Gleen J. Barcelon.
The program highlighted the significance of Women’s Month as a time to recognize women’s vital contributions to society and to promote gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity. A key component of the activity was an engaging discussion on Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, which addresses gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, and educational institutions.
Participants actively engaged in interactive activities, open forums, and scenario-based discussions, showing enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the law. Their participation reflected a growing commitment to fostering safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces within their community.”

LOOK: HAPPENING NOW!
In celebration of National Women’s Month 2026, the Bicol University Graduate School Student Alliance for Gender Equality (BUGS SAGE) successfully conducted an orientation on the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313). The activity was facilitated by Mr. Adrian Bodopol Adrian DraeChairperson of BUGS SAGE, with the goal of strengthening institutional mechanisms and fostering a more inclusive and safe community environment.
The initiative was carried out in partnership with the local government unit of Barangay Dap-Dap, Legazpi City, with the full support of Punong Barangay Glenn J. Barcelon and the barangay officials. As part of the program, advocacy materials were distributed, and exhibits highlighting gender and development (GAD) programs of Bicol University—through CGAD and BU-IDEA—were showcased to raise awareness and promote gender sensitivity.
To further enrich the activity, interviews with empowered women in the community were conducted, allowing participants to hear real-life experiences and inspiring stories of resilience and leadership. In addition, a focus group discussion was held to provide a platform for participants to share insights, concerns, and perspectives on gender issues and community safety.
The event concluded with a meaningful pledge of commitment from the participants—comprising women’s organizations, 4Ps beneficiaries, men, youth, and other community sectors—to actively support efforts in ending violence against women and promoting gender equality.
