He is an advocate of youth empowerment, financial literacy, and economic empowerment. He began his career in 2017 as a senior high school teacher in a local school in Aklan. In his two years of teaching, he founded the AVHS Business Youth Leaders’ Alliance that was responsible in organizing the biggest youth business convention in the Province of Aklan in 2019 -- the VENTURE 2.0. This COVID-19 pan
demic paved way for him to co-found Project Kalibo, a community organization responsible in helping out community members who were in dire need of help during the Enhanced Community Quarantine in his province. His organization, Project Kalibo, was one of the national finalists during the 18th Search for Ten Accomplished Youth Organization of the Philippines in 2020. As the Youth Development Officer and Livelihood Focal Person, a few of his flagship projects include the following:
- Project PEAK: Pandemic Educational Assistance to Kalibonhons
- Kalibo E-Sports League
- Project PagPaSaKa: Capital Rolling and Savings Collection Program for Small-time Business Owners of Kalibo
John Marlou graduated from the University of the Philippines Visayas, cm laude, with a degree in Management , and is currently taking up his Master’s Degree in Public Management in the same institution. John Marlou is currently affiliated with Junior Chamber International – Aklan Kalantiao as the outgoing Vice President for Community and the incoming Executive Vice President for Internal Affairs, a member of the Board of Directors of Gerry Roxas Leaders Aklan, and is one of the 30 youth fellows of the Leadership and Democracy Fellowship organized by the United States Agency for International Development and The Asia Foundation.
