Geras Integrated School Commemorates Indigenous Peoples Education Through Cultural Pride and Unity
Geras Integrated School once again witnessed a feast of identity within its vibrant corners, where culture speaks volumes of pride and the spirit of coexistence radiates throughout the Indigenous Peoples Education (IPED) celebration with the theme " Ating Pandayin ang Kinabukasan Gabay ang Katutubong Karununugan at Karapatan". The school community gathered not merely to observe traditions, but to honor the living heritage of Indigenous cultural communities whose stories and ancestral wisdom continue to shape the nation’s character. Through this celebration, the essence of identity and rootedness became more visible among learners and educators alike.
This year’s event also highlighted the unwavering support of educational leaders who champion culture-responsive learning. In attendance were Dr. Fadher G. Isnamel, Public Schools District Supervisor for West 3; Dr. Murada Danial, Division IPED Focal Person; and Ma’am Antonia G. Tanhaji, Education Program Supervisor for Senior High School.
As songs are sung and dances are performed, participants are reminded that culture is not only preserved in artifacts and rituals, but in the hearts of every learner who embraces their roots. The event strengthened the school’s commitment to inclusivity, acknowledging that within diversity lies unity and progress. Each presentation showcased how cultural identity thrives when celebrated and respected across generations.
One of the highlights of the event was the insightful message delivered by the guest speaker, whose embodiment of success radiates from his proud Yakan roots, Mr. Arjiemar I. Musaddaman, Head of Office of MAFAR Basilan. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of cultivating dreams, how aspirations shape individuals to become ambitious and determined. He reminded learners not to limit their capabilities, and to pursue growth with humility and submission to Allah. His words served as a powerful reminder that success is attainable when guided by good character and pure intentions.
Of course, the success of the celebration would not have been possible without the strong leadership of the school headed by Dr. Margarito Reyes, whose direction ensured a meaningful and well-organized program. The dedication of the IPED focal persons, Nur Aisa E. Asmawil for the elementary level and Melanie I. Kaddaring for the secondary level, was also instrumental in the planning and ex*****on of the event. Their commitment to promoting inclusive and culturally responsive education greatly contributed to the overall success of the celebration.
Furthermore, the unwavering support of the school administration and teaching staff who extended their efforts and guidance, ensured that every detail of the activity was carefully supervised and properly implemented. Their collective work reflected a shared vision to uphold cultural identity and provide learners with opportunities to embrace their heritage with pride. Mabuhay ang pambansang buwan ng mga katutubo!
