On this day back in 1928, the Duke of York (later to become King George VI) became a Prudential Customer.

It all occurred during a trip to Holborn Bars (our then head office) in London in his capacity as President of the Industrial Welfare Society.

As per the pictures below, the Duke toured our offices, learnt about our business and then took out a Prudential ‘penny policy’. He continued to pay one penny a week and after his death in 1952, a sum was paid out to his executors.

This is just one chapter in our 175-year history that has brought us to where we are today.
