At CPUGAD TBI, we take pride in empowering young innovators and supporting their involvement in national and global conversations on sustainability. Through mentorship, training, and hands-on experience, we equip our incubatees with the skills and confidence they need to lead in their fields.

CPUGAD TBI is proud to share that PackUp Founder and CEO Matt Rafael Genito, one of our startup incubatees and a CPU Packaging Engineering student and a recognized packaging and labelling technical expert under DOST VI, was selected as a panelist at the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) PH 2025 on November 8, 2025, at Quezon City University. The panel discussed the topic “𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜: 𝙒𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚,” which explores how science, innovation, and partnership can create effective, sustainable food packaging solutions that holistically benefit both the economy and the environment. Genito was joined by Jaypee Dela Cruz, a CPU Packaging Engineering graduate and R&D Manager at Ajinomoto Philippines—both outstanding examples of the talent we strive to nurture.

PackUp, a multi-awarded, student-led startup from CPUGAD TBI that has earned recognition on both local and national stages, aims to support local entrepreneurs in competing with major brands by offering professional packaging services. A testament to CPUGAD TBI’s nurturing nest as a university-based TBI, and the way academic learning complements real-world scenarios.

Organized annually by Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc., HIC brings together a passionate community of researchers who are united by a shared vision: “Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness.” By connecting startups, researchers, scientists, government stakeholders, and companies from various fields, HIC strives to develop innovative solutions and foster a more progressive future for the Philippines.

This participation reinforces CPUGAD TBI’s strong support for young leaders and aligns with our goal to support innovators who care about sustainability. It also strengthens our position as a top center for developing talent and promoting effective ICT solutions for a sustainable, creative food industry in Western Visayas and beyond.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸'𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗜𝗖 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀

𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸 is our venture focused on developing inclusive pharmaceutical packaging solutions designed to significantly ease medication adherence for the blind and elderly.

PharmaPack’s participation in the 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗛𝗜𝗖) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 as a poster presenter, represented by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗱𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗮, highlighting their innovative approach to addressing public health needs. This presence at the national level follows their earlier success, where PharmaPack secured a win at the preceding HIC Forum in Iloilo. PharmaPack aims to secure partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies, and the government’s healthcare sector to bring this vital solution to market.

This invitation positioned PackUp at the forefront of the national conversation regarding sustainable innovation.

The session centered on the critical challenge of plastic pollution, a particularly urgent issue as the Philippines is recognized as the third-largest contributor globally, largely driven by the pervasive use of single-use plastic packaging and sachets. The discussion sought solutions that balance functionality, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility, aligning with the sustainability commitment of Session Partner, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC), to transition to 100% recyclable packaging by 2030.

Joining respected industry leaders, including fellow Central Philippine University BS Packaging Engineering alumnus, Mr. Jaypee Dela Cruz (R&D Packaging Manager, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation), our CEO brought the specific perspective of the young, tech-enabled startup founder. His expertise is built upon the strong foundation of the Packaging Engineering program at Central Philippine University, which is the first of its kind in the country. This academic rigor, coupled with PackUp's pioneering integration of software technology in packaging, is key to creating scalable, science-backed solutions. The narrative emphasizes how agile startups can leverage deep technical research and technological innovation to address both community needs and global environmental demands.

The 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (𝗣𝗛𝗦𝗪) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 and the Startup Expo have concluded, marking a pivotal moment of connection and strategic growth for PackUp. Our three-day presence was defined by high-impact networking and a strong affirmation of our role in empowering Filipino MSMEs through specialized packaging innovation.

The final day of the Expo underscored the significance of PHSW in convening key pillars of development. We were privileged to host several influential visitors: We welcomed our friends from the𝗪𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, including 𝗠𝗿. 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗼 (𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝗸𝗮 (𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 – 𝗪𝗘𝗡, 𝗦𝗘𝗔), strengthening our ties with global entrepreneurial support systems. We connected with national leadership, receiving a visit from𝗠𝗿. 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗛. 𝗠𝗲𝗷𝗶𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 (𝗡𝗗𝗖), showcasing how PackUp’s scalable solutions can align with the country's economic mandates. We also engaged directly with the future of entrepreneurship, hosting students from the Marikina Institute of Technology, and gaining valuable insights from women leaders within the Marikina leather industry, demonstrating the tangible impact of professional packaging on local craftsmanship and education.

𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 at the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 was marked by high-level engagement and strategic validation for PackUp. We continued to reinforce our mission to empower Filipino MSMEs by demonstrating how our expertise in packaging and software engineering provides a crucial competitive advantage.

Our booth was honored with a visit from 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗶𝗴𝗼, 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗗 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁, this visit held particular significance as PackUp is incubated under CPUGAD TBI, a DOST PCIEERD-supported Technology Business Incubator, notably the only private university TBI funded by DOST PCIEERD in Western Visayas. The visits were along with representatives from various government agencies. We effectively presented how 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗨𝗽’𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀, signaling strong potential for future partnerships.

PackUp CEO, Matt Rafael Genito, has successfully completed the highly-regarded 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 (VCA) program, earning 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 This specialized training directly supports the startup's core strategic understanding that successful ventures must possess a clear grasp of their audience and ecosystem: understanding who they are talking and dealing with—be it startups, founders, or the broader market.

The program was held on November 12, 2025 at 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘆, 𝗦𝗿. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗠𝗖-𝗛𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗖)—𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀' 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲—and provided targeted, advanced insights into venture dynamics and investment readiness. A significant part of the experience was learning directly from 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗻, 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, offering our leadership practical perspectives on strategic scaling that we will now apply to our packaging and software engineering initiatives.

This completion positions Matt Rafael as a Venture Leader and serves as an important validation for PackUp. By representing himself, the startup, and the Central Philippine University (CPU) and CPUGAD TBI, the achievement showcases the institution's role as a 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲. For our MSME clients, this means we are now equipped with an elevated strategic playbook to deliver even more effective and scalable packaging solutions.

Ultimately, completing this VCA program affirms that PackUp is equipping its leadership with the necessary knowledge and skills to be investment-ready within the Venture Capital ecosystem.

PackUp is now set up and fully engaged at the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, held during 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆. Day 1 was characterized by an electric atmosphere, as the venue filled with enthusiastic startups, innovators, and key industry players dedicated to advancing the Philippine entrepreneurial landscape. As a startup, we are proud to be showcasing our commitment to democratizing market access and empowering Filipino MSMEs to effectively compete with major brands.

The focus of our initial exhibition day was establishing PackUp as the expert in strategic packaging solutions. We successfully positioned ourselves by highlighting the distinct academic and technological rigor that underpins our services. This is directly traceable to the visionary programs at Central Philippine University and CPUGAD TBI, featuring the Philippines' 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. This unique expertise allows us to provide the professional, impactful packaging necessary for local products to gain the shelf presence and credibility they deserve.

We leveraged the immense networking opportunities present, making several valuable connections throughout the day. This included meeting with innovators and enthusiasts from the Wadhwani Foundation, engaging in insightful conversations with Mr. Carlo Chen Delantar of Gobi Partners, and connecting with Serial Disruptors. Furthermore, we networked our services to interested parties, conducted a consultation with a management service company, and fostered new relationships with fellow student-led startups and our Ilonggo Startup peers.

PackUp, the promising student-led startup incubated under CPUGAD TBI, proudly took part in the 9th National TBI Summit in Bacolod City, a premier event organized by DOST-PCIEERD.

Under the impactful theme, "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗼: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻𝘀," this summit gathered key players from the academe, industry, and government to actively strengthen the country’s innovation framework and spotlight the economic potential of the regions.

Represented by our CEO, Matt Rafael Genito, PackUp emphasized that innovative, sustainable packaging is the essential layer necessary to realize this potential. We are dedicated to providing the solutions that ensure regional excellence is properly protected, professionally branded, and fully prepared for the national and global market.
