In the highlands of Kenya, scientists have found fig trees that turn carbon into crystal — literally transforming CO₂ into rock.

Researchers from Kenya, Switzerland, and the U.S. used advanced imaging at Stanford to watch the process unfold inside Ficus wakefieldii — the first fruit tree known to turn air into mineral.
They call it the oxalate–carbonate pathway — a natural spell that traps carbon for centuries, long after the tree has fallen.
