A Sad Insurance Story

So you still get annoyed or probaly consistently avoid that insurance agent who've been wanting to get an appointment with you? This post might change that.

Today June 10, 2020 we delivered a sad news to our client; a former seafarer, a Chief Mate.

It was September 2017 when Mr. Chief bought an insurance policy with Life Coverage and Accident coverage. Originally, our insurance advisor offered him a life insurance with critical Illness, accident and hospital confinement benefit. The result of our financial needs analysis showed that Mr. Chief is financially and physically capable for the earlier mentioned coverage. Mr. Chief declined the offer for he is preparing to buy a new property and a new car. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a new car or another property. It is after all your reward for your hardwork.

October of 2017 Mr. Chief was supposed to return on board but due to some errands he decided to postpone it. Here comes the sad part. January of 2018 he got cerebrovascular accident (stroke). Mr. Chief can no longer go back to work, finances were exhausted and you know what hit me hard?

" Yung mga tinulungan kong maka sampa sa barko dati pati mga kamag anak na tinulungan ko, walang tumulong sakin nung ako na ang nangangailangan." Mr. Chief's tears were flowing down his cheeks as he utter these words.

" Hindi ko naman alam na magkaka stroke ako ng January. Kung nalaman ko lang, edi sana sumampa na ako noong Octobe may 20,000$ pa sana ako kung sa barko yun nangyare."

Mr. Chief's policy is now lapsed. He only paid his policy once (September 2017 only). Due to his financial status, he was not able to pay for his succeeding insurance premiums (5 year pay policy). Real estate properties were sold (lowest price), cars were sold, debts piling up. Even he wife and children now think that he is nothing but a "Pabigat Sa Pamilya".

Now the only thing he has is his insurance policy with us. He visited our branch today to check and withdraw his account value. We delivered the news with a heavy heart to the dejected client.

" Sir, almost 3 years nyo na pong hindi nabayaran ang policy nyo at lapsed na po sya with 0 account value. Wala po kayong makukuha sa account nyo na withdrawable amount."

The client can barely walk and talk straight. He can barely right his name and signature on a peice of paper. He begged to return even just a portion of his premium. So he left the branch with a heavy heart.

To the financial advisors:
Client first. Offer the correct financial solution according their needs. We dont just offer our products. We offer certainty to the uncertainty.

To the clients/prospects:
I hope this post changed your view about insurance and insurance advisors. Usap lang tayo baka pwede kaming maka tulong sayo, sa goals mo at sa future ng family nyo. Insurance advisors are here to help you protect your goals.

To my friends across insurance industry. Be proud of your profession. We all have the power to change and protect lives.
