During the celebration of the Panagat Festival 2026, the concept of Hubon Mandaragat became a powerful symbol of unity and responsibility in protecting the marine life surrounding Bayas Island, especially the sea turtles that continue to suffer from illegal hunting and consumption. While the festival showcased the beauty of the ocean through culture, dance, and tradition, it also carried a deeper message that the sea is not only a source of livelihood, but a sacred home that must be preserved.

For many years, turtles in the waters of Bayas Island have become victims of human greed and ignorance. Some continue to capture and kill turtles for their meat without realizing the devastating consequences it brings to nature. Sea turtles are not ordinary creatures; they are essential to the balance of marine ecosystems. When turtles disappear, coral reefs weaken, seagrass beds deteriorate, and marine biodiversity slowly declines. What may seem like a simple act of hunting becomes a catastrophe that affects the entire ocean and the future of coastal communities.

The Hubon Mandaragat movement during Panagat Festival served as a call for awareness and action. It reminded the people that unforeseen circumstances arise when humanity destroys what nature carefully protects. Storm surges, declining fish populations, damaged reefs, and environmental imbalance are warnings that the sea can no longer endure abuse. Protecting turtles means protecting the life of the ocean itself.

Hon. Arleen Bacos (Hubon Manager) – thank you for being more than just a leader. You became our strength when things were uncertain. When pressure started to build and everyone was already tired, you stayed steady. You reminded us why we started, and you never let the team fall apart. Your presence alone gave us confidence to keep going.

John Vincent Guzman (Hubon Operational Manager & Production Coordinator) – you carried responsibilities that no one really sees. The kind that keeps you awake at night, thinking if everything will fall into place. You had to be strong for everyone even when you were already drained. But you still showed up, you still pushed through and because of that, everything held together.

Sir Steven Pats Son Real (Choreographer) – thank you for your patience and belief in us. You didn’t just create steps you built something that told a story. Even when we struggled to keep up, you stayed and helped us understand, again and again, until we got it right. Your passion shaped this performance into something unforgettable.

Oneball Magbanua , Cristian Francisco & Jay Bonn Predigua (Dance Masters) – thank you for pushing the dancers beyond their limits. You saw potential even when the dancers were already exhausted. You demanded more not to pressure, but because you believed we could do more. And that made all the difference.

Roger John Arsenal & All In Boys (Production Design) – thank you for building the world where our story lived. Your work turned imagination into reality. Everything we saw on stage—every setup, every detail helped complete the performance we proudly showed

– Tito Jack and all Barangay Tanods – thank you for ensuring that everyone was safe, on time, and where they needed to be. From early call times to late-night returns, you were there, steady and reliable. Your presence gave us peace of mind throughout the entire journey.

To our Support Staff – Kagawad Dante Ignacio, Kagawad Jobert Sualibio, and Sir Jayson Pellina – thank you for always being ready to help in any way needed. No task was too small, no request ignored. You filled the gaps, solved the unseen problems, and made everything run smoother than we could have imagined.

This victory is not perfect but it is real. Built from effort, from trust, from people who chose to stay even when it was hard.

And that’s why this championship means everything.
