In 1975, the science of toxicology was introduced in the country with the establishment of a poison control center at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). This was in response to the increasing incidence of poisoning brought about by indiscriminate use of pesticides. In observance of National Poison Prevention Week (Proclamation No. 1777, s. 2009), and in collaboration with the Philippine Society of Clinical and Occupational Toxicology (PSCOT), the UP–PGH National Poison Management and Control Center proudly joins the nationwide effort to raise awareness on poisoning risks in the digital age.
