FRIDAY DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART
Every Friday is a day of the Sacred Heart, because every Friday is centered on the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Heart of Jesus is most clearly revealed on the Cross—pierced, suffering, and pouring out love for humanity. So even outside the First Friday Devotion, every Friday naturally leads us to His Sacred Heart.
At the same time, when this falls on Viernes de Dolores, we don’t only look at the Heart of Jesus—we also contemplate the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, who remained with Him in His suffering. Her heart was united with His: as His Heart was pierced by the lance, hers was pierced spiritually by sorrow.
Every Friday reveals the Sacred Heart of Jesus—and on the Friday of Sorrows, we also encounter the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, united in one sacrifice of love.
